Technology Risk Audit Manager
Discord has a highly engaged community of millions of daily active users who use the platform for many different reasons, but there’s one thing that nearly everyone does: play video games. Discord plays a uniquely important role in the future of gaming, and we are focused on making it easier and more fun for people to hang out before, during, and after playing games. Discord's Internal Audit team exists to demonstrate effective risk management, process optimization, and adherence to relevant regulations — through a mix of independent assurance and advisory work that helps teams strengthen our overall control environment. This Technology Risk Audit Manager role owns the technical side of that mission — IT SOX/ITGC, system controls, and domains centered around consumer trust — that protect hundreds of millions of our users worldwide. You'll have the opportunity to help build our internal audit function from the ground up: shaping the frameworks and processes with an AI-native approach from day one, rather than bolting AI on after the fact. Your first few months will focus on learning Discord's financial-reporting systems landscape, understanding the company's GRC program structure, and evaluating AI-powered testing solutions — setting the foundation for a function that's built to scale as Discord grows toward enterprise readiness. This person will report to the Vice President of Internal Audit. What You'll Be Doing - Lead IT SOX/ITGC strategy and continuous improvement across financial-reporting-relevant systems - Extend risk and controls assessment and assurance into consumer trust domains such as privacy, security, and trust & safety - Partner with the Engineering organization to ensure proper access controls, segregation of duties, change management, and CI/CD integrity are in place - Guide control design through system implementations, migrations, and platform changes - Manage teams and projects related to IT controls and technical audits, including external contractors and/or internal teammates - Apply AI/automation tools to improve audit testing efficiency, anomaly detection, and control monitoring - Track remediation, coordinate with external auditors, and report to senior leadership What you should have - Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Accounting, or related field (or equivalent practical experience) - 8+ years in IT audit, risk management, or controls, spanning both financial (SOX/ITGC) and consumer trust domains (security, privacy, or trust & safety a plus) - Deep ITGC fundamentals — access management, change management, computer operations, and SDLC controls - SOX/ICFR knowledge and independent risk assessment methodology — able to scope an audit, identify key risks, and design test procedures rather than execute a checklist - Framework fluency across COSO, COBIT, and NIST CSF, applied appropriately by context - Proven external audit/co-source coordination experience, with a track record of driving remediation action plans through to closure - Hands-on experience applying AI or automation tools to audit processes, and strong communication skills translating technical risk for non-technical stakeholders Bonus points - Consumer facing platform technology risk experience - Subscription and/or Ad Tech experience - Experience auditing homegrown systems and/or tools - AI governance experience - Third-party/vendor risk depth - Data privacy regulatory fluency - DevSecOps / CI-CD pipeline controls - CISA, CISSP, or CPA credential Candidates must reside in or be willing to relocate to the San Francisco Bay Area (Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, Napa, San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara, Solano, and Sonoma counties). Staff Software Engineer, Enterprise Platform
Discord's Enterprise Technology org is building a software engineering discipline from the ground up, and this is the founding engineering hire. There is no Enterprise Platform team yet. You will not be maintaining a status quo or joining an existing backlog: you will define the discipline, set the technical foundation, and build the platform that lets the internal systems enabling Discordians scale with the company. Discord's mission is to cultivate belonging, and doing that at scale requires internal systems that move as fast as the product itself. The mission of this role is to turn our enterprise infrastructure into self-service software. Your job is to replace manual consoles and tickets with a platform of reusable primitives, building blocks like "provision a device" or "push an IAM policy or app integration through code," exposed through clean APIs and self-service portals. As a code-forward Staff engineer, you will design abstractions that hide the messy reality of Okta, Jamf, and Terraform (our identity, device management, and infrastructure-as-code tools) behind interfaces people actually want to use, operating with a platform-as-a-product mindset. What You'll Do - Manage the device fleet as code: Move device configuration off consoles and into versioned, API-driven infrastructure for endpoint management and hardware provisioning. - Automate the identity layer: Manage identity systems and their connections to downstream apps as code, from SSO and SCIM integrations to account workflows, so changes ship through version control and CI/CD instead of an admin console. - Own app delivery and Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC): Build deployment pipelines and provisioning patterns that let internal systems be built and changed safely, establishing CI/CD standards. - Build the self-service layer: Design and ship the APIs, CLIs, and portals that compose primitives into paved paths, like a new hire's first day, where software access and group memberships land in one automated, auditable flow. - Set the foundation: Define the technical direction and architecture for the discipline, writing the RFCs and documentation that future hires will build on. What You Should Have - 6+ years building and operating production software and systems at a technology company, with a track record of owning ambiguous projects end to end. - Strong software engineering fundamentals. You write production code (we lean on Python, TypeScript and Rust), and design, test, and ship it. This is not a systems admin role. - Deep, hands-on IAM experience (SSO, SCIM, OAuth/OIDC, RBAC) and fluency with infrastructure as code (Terraform) and CI/CD. - Experience treating endpoint and fleet management as an API-driven engineering surface at scale. - A platform-as-a-product mindset. You have built self-service tooling that people chose to adopt. - Comfort with ambiguity and a founder's temperament; energized by building from scratch. Bonus Points - Hands-on experience with Okta, Jamf, or Intune. - Experience with identity and access governance for non-human, workload, or AI-agent principals. - Background at a high-growth consumer tech company with a highly technical employee base. The US base salary range for this full-time position is $248,000 to $279,000 + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role and level. Within the range, individual pay is determined by additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Security Analyst
Discord's Legal team is growing its Security GRC function, and we're looking for a Security Analyst to help run and scale it. You'll own the day-to-day engine of the program: the questionnaires, risk tracking, analyses, tooling, and documentation that keep compliance moving. As we build, that's a mix of hands-on work today and the systems that shrink it over time, because we'd rather automate a control than babysit it. We care about the right level of compliance for Discord, our users, and our customers. You'll partner across Security, Engineering, IT, and Legal to make compliance feel friction-free, even invisible, rather than something teams have to fight. What you'll be doing - Run the customer security questionnaire program end-to-end, from intake through response, and grow a reusable answer library that turns repeat questions into fast, near-self-service answers. - Operate risk and control workflows: triage incoming risks, track gap closure and risk treatment through to completion, and keep the risk register accurate and current. You'll be the first point of contact for partner teams, resolving routine questions and escalating the ones that need senior judgment. - Run GRC analyses that turn into decisions: how standards, procedures, and controls align to our policies and framework requirements; where the gaps are; and how mature and effective our controls actually are. - Build and maintain the GRC toolchain and its automation: administer our GRC platform, ticketing, and knowledge bases, and design the integrations and workflows that collect evidence and check controls by default rather than by hand. - Create the documentation that makes the program usable: internal guidance and updates to our policies, standards, and procedures; company-wide GRC communications; and security training delivered in plain language that people outside the field can follow. What you should have - 4+ years in security compliance, GRC, or a closely related field (security operations, IT risk, audit). - Working familiarity with common frameworks (ISO 27001/27002, SOC 2, PCI DSS, GDPR/CPRA) and a sense of how their requirements turn into day-to-day controls. - Hands-on experience operating compliance processes: evidence collection, control tracking, risk register upkeep, or security questionnaire response. - An automation-first instinct. You reach for tooling, integrations, and repeatable workflows to replace manual, repetitive compliance work, not box-checking. - Comfort living across tools (GRC platforms, ticketing, docs and wikis) and a habit of keeping data clean and organized. - Clear writing, with a knack for turning dense requirements into guidance people actually use. - Ability to work across teams and influence without authority in a fast-moving environment with competing priorities. Bonus points - Hands-on experience with a GRC platform. - Exposure to ISO 27701, ISO 42001, or emerging AI compliance work. - Background in consumer technology, gaming, or online community platforms. Candidates must reside in or be willing to relocate to the San Francisco Bay Area (Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, Napa, San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara, Solano, and Sonoma counties). Relocation assistance may be available. For this role, the Hiring Manager would like folks to be in the office 2 days a week. The US base salary range for this full-time position is $144,000 to $162,000 + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role and level. Within the range, individual pay is determined by additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Please note that the compensation details listed in US role postings reflect the base salary only, and do not include equity, or benefits. Why Discord? Manager, Safety Analytics
Discord exists to give people the power to create space to find belonging — to talk regularly with the people they care about and build genuine relationships with friends and communities close to home or around the world. We're looking for an Analytics Manager to lead our Scaled Abuse Countermeasures and Research (SCAR) team — the team that safeguards Discord’s platform integrity. SCAR detects, analyzes, and disrupts high-volume threats through a combination of automated systems, deep research, and active incident response. This role reports to the Head of Safety Intelligence and Automation. What You'll Be Doing - Lead and mentor a team of data analysts, scientists, and researchers who investigate active threats, identify platform abuse vectors, and uncover adversarial patterns. - Define a strategic roadmap that prioritizes and disrupts the highest impact abuse operations through structured research, rigorous analyses, and live experimentation. - Collaborate closely with the safety machine learning team to improve models by identifying the threat signals that translate into long-term, automated countermeasures. - Partner cross-functionally with Product, Engineering, Data Science, Policy, Legal, and Revenue, influencing safety-by-design decisions upstream of abuse. - Influence capacity toward high-impact infrastructure, such as automated rule engines, ML models, or agent moderation tools. What you should have - 2+ years of people management experience leading technical teams, including engineers, data scientists, analysts, applied researchers, or equivalent. - 4+ years of experience working in a Trust & Safety domain, such as fraud, spam, scams, account compromise or other high-volume threats. - Fluency in SQL and/or Python for data investigation and pattern analysis. - Strong analytical problem-solving skills, with expertise in measurement and experimentation. - Demonstrated ability to drive automation adoption within operations or incident response workflows that increase the team's leverage and reduce manual work. - Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration skills, with an ability to translate complex technical topics into clear takeaways for senior leadership. Bonus Points - Experience leveraging LLMs or AI agents for incident response, investigation automation, or signal triage. - Experience tackling scaled abuse at large social platforms, marketplaces, or other high-volume consumer products. - Threat intelligence research background, including understanding of internet infrastructure and the tools and techniques attackers use. - A strong passion for Discord and/or gaming, and an appreciation for the communities we serve. - A relevant degree in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Statistics, or a related quantitative field, or equivalent practical experience. The US base salary range for this full-time position is $220,000 to $275,000 + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role and level. Within the range, individual pay is determined by additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Engineering Manager, Safety
This team is where reports and signals become decisions. We build the LLM pipelines that review reported content, the systems that carry enforcement out, the appeals path users take when we get it wrong, and the tooling our investigators and content reviewers work in every day. Most safety reviews are now decided by automation instead of a person, at a cost per review that has fallen by more than 90% on mature workflows and at precision and recall above trained human reviewers. What's left to automate is the ambiguous, high-stakes end, and with appeals arriving by the hundreds of thousands, getting users a fast and fair answer matters as much as catching harm. We're hiring an Engineering Manager to lead the team: nine engineers across three squads, each with an experienced tech lead. One builds the automated review systems; another owns enforcement, warnings, and the infrastructure behind appeals; and the final owns tooling that enables analysts to be effective. You'll report to the Director of Engineering for Safety and work closely with our content review operations, machine learning, product, policy, and legal teams. The charter is larger than the current headcount, and we expect the role to grow with it. What you'll do - Lead three squads, Review, Enforce, and Tooling through their tech leads, setting direction across automated review, enforcement, and appeals - Push automation toward nearly all review decisions without giving up precision or recall against a human baseline, and get engineering out of the loop so the operations team can launch and tune workflows themselves - Rebuild appeals: one path for every eligible appeal regardless of what triggered the original action, review tooling that scores decision quality rather than only flagging that two reviewers disagreed, and checks that catch mistakes before they land on good users - Own the tooling our investigators depend on, cutting complex investigations from hours to minutes, and make enforcement traceable enough that anyone can see how a user reached their current state - Carry regulatory and child-safety compliance work alongside the roadmap, set the engineering bar with your leads, and hire and grow the team Who you are - 5+ years as a software engineer with a solid backend and distributed systems background, and 2+ years managing engineers - You've shipped LLM systems in production where the output is a decision the business acts on rather than a suggestion, with opinions about evaluation, ground-truth data, quality regressions, and where cost and latency start to bite - Technical enough to stay in the details. You can review a design, follow a hard incident, and disagree with an approach without taking the work away from senior engineers who know the system better than you do - Experienced working alongside operations or human-in-the-loop teams. You understand quality assurance, reviewer calibration, and appeals, and you build tools that respect the people using them - Steady under escalation. Legal deadlines, serious incidents, and regulator attention come with this job, and you can hold a quality line while shipping against a clock - Excellent communication and cross-functional collaboration across engineering, machine learning, data science, policy, legal, and product, and practical about throughput and unit economics - An empathetic and experienced recruiter and coach. People you've managed want to work with you again Bonus Points - A strong passion for Discord and/or gaming, and an appreciation for the communities we serve - Trust and safety, fraud, integrity, or abuse engineering at a consumer platform - Building internal tools where operations or review teams are the primary user - Consolidating fragmented legacy systems onto a single platform, or managing outsourced operations teams and vendors Candidates must reside in or be willing to relocate to the San Francisco Bay Area (Alameda, Contra Costa, Marin, Napa, San Francisco, San Mateo, Santa Clara, Solano, and Sonoma counties). Relocation assistance may be available. The US base salary range for this full-time position is $248,000 to $310,000 + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role and level. Product Designer, Growth
We're looking for a Product Designer to join Growth at Discord and help shape how people find Discord, get set up, and stay connected over time. Growth sits at the front door of our consumer org. We're responsible for how Discord shows up in the world — how new people discover us, how they land and get started, and how existing users stay close to the conversations and communities they care about. It's a broad, fast-moving surface area, and design plays a central role in making each of those moments feel unmistakably like Discord. This role spans the full breadth of what Growth owns: - Notifications — helping users stay connected to what they care about, even when they're away. We're making notifications more intelligent, trusted, and effective: reaching people at the right moments, coordinating delivery thoughtfully, and giving users real control over their experience. - Off-platform — how Discord shows up beyond the app itself, across embeds, links, invites, web pages, and text messages. These are often someone's first impression of Discord, and there's a lot of room to make them better. - Onboarding — rethinking how new users arrive, understand what Discord is, and find their footing in those first few minutes. - GSEO — a growing effort to build the web experiences that help new people discover Discord through search in the first place. You won't own all of this at once, but you'll work across it — and you'll help us shape how these pieces fit together into one coherent growth experience rather than a set of disconnected products. What You'll Be Doing - Own end-to-end initiatives across Growth — a new notification type, an onboarding flow, an off-platform surface like invites or embeds, or a web experience built to bring new users in — designing across all platforms (iOS, Android, Desktop, Web) - Design with high craft and velocity — creating production-ready specs and high-fidelity prototypes while knowing when to ship vs. polish - Influence scope and strategy in partnership with your PM, engineering lead, and cross-functional teammates, balancing growth velocity with user value - Use data and research to inform decisions, partnering with research and data science teams to validate designs and understand user behavior - Think in systems — considering how discovery, onboarding, off-platform touchpoints, and re-engagement work together to create one cohesive experience - Collaborate and communicate effectively — sharing work early and often, telling compelling stories about your design rationale, and building relationships across teams - Drive projects autonomously — managing your own time and deliverables while knowing when to escalate blockers What you should have - 3+ years of product design experience designing consumer-facing digital products — though we're open to strong candidates with 2+ years who demonstrate exceptional craft and potential. - Strong visual design foundation with demonstrated aesthetic taste. You have a high level of skill crafting beautiful interfaces and an eye for creating delight in every product experience — typography, color, hierarchy, and composition are second nature to you. You're comfortable working with design systems. - Solid interaction design skills — you create intuitive flows, understand information architecture, and can design for complex, multi-step experiences. You're comfortable designing systems, not just screens. - High proficiency with Figma and prototyping tools (Protopie, Framer, Principle, etc.) — you use prototypes to communicate your vision, test concepts, and build alignment with stakeholders. - Experience shipping products collaboratively in cross-functional teams with engineering, product management, research, and data science. - Ownership mindset with a bias toward action — you proactively drive projects and decisions forward. You help guide product vision through design explorations, documentation, and presentations. Bonus Points: - Personal use of Discord and passion for gaming or community platforms - Experience designing growth, onboarding, acquisition, or lifecycle products - Understanding of how products reach and grow users across surfaces — notifications, messaging, web, SEO, or shareable/viral loops - Familiarity with experimentation frameworks and data-driven iteration The US base salary range for this full-time position is $148,000 to $166,500 + equity + benefits. Our salary ranges are determined by role and level. Within the range, individual pay is determined by additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.
